ABOUT: Amazonite (also known as amazonstone) is a green tectosilicate mineral, a variety of the potassium feldspar called microcline. It gets its name from the Amazon River, where the stones were first thought to be found (though it is now unclear if the stones were actually amazonite). Green and blue-ish green varieties of potassium feldspar that are predominantly triclinic are designated as amazonite. It is a mineral of limited occurrence and often occurs in granite rocks.
