ABOUT: Sunstone belongs to the feldspar group of minerals. The sparkly metallic glitter that is commonly found in sunstone is called “aventurescence”, and is caused by flat, reflective inclusions. These inclusions can be hematite, copper, or other minerals. Sunstone was first found in Siberia and Norway, but is commonly found all over the world these days. The state of Oregon has a long history with sunstone mining, and sunstone is the official state gemstone of Oregon.
